Following last week's impassioned speech about protecting Dead or Alive's female fighters "like daughters," Koei Tecmo has unveiled its latest downloadable content pack, "Paternal Disappointment." The $29.99 DLC features what marketing materials describe as "spring break outfits that would make any concerned father question his parenting decisions."
The announcement arrives mere days after Tomotoshi Nishimura, head of Koei Tecmo's legal department, justified thousands of fan art takedowns by invoking paternal protection of the game's characters. The new content pack notably includes a "College Fund Well Spent" volleyball tournament mode and an unlockable "What Will The Neighbors Think?" costume collection.
"We take our role as digital father figures very seriously," said VP of Marketing Hiroshi Tanaka, demonstrating the new "Why Don't You Call Home Anymore?" photo mode. "That's why we've ensured each character's disappointment physics are rendered in stunning 4K."
The DLC's flagship feature, "Grounded For Life Beach Party," allows up to four players to simultaneously experience what the press release calls "the crushing weight of virtual parental disapproval." Players can unlock additional outfits by collecting "Trust Fund Tokens" in mini-games such as "Canceled Credit Card Catch" and "Inheritance Elimination Challenge."
Pre-order bonuses include exclusive access to the "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" battle arena and a limited edition "My Daughter The Art History Major" alternate costume pack.
When reached for comment about the apparent contradiction, Nishimura clarified: "We meant they're like daughters in the sense that they're guaranteed to do exactly the opposite of what we say in public."
